Very nice extra large tintype picture/photo of a girl hugging her dog ( I believe its a St Bernard ) It looks similar to a few antique paintings but it has the signature of a company in Chicago and I believe that's the photo company that did it. I can't read all of it but it is dated 1900 or 1904 from what I can read. I believe it to be a tintype from the way it reacts in certain lights and angles. Looking strait on it has a grayish metallic look to the eyes and the blacks, but when you tilt it you can see her blue eyes as well as the dogs eyes and her black shoes and stockings very clear. The picture/photo has parts that are hand painted on in white and looking at some of the tintype pictures and photos from the late 1800's early 1900's it is not uncommon to have white drawn/painted in over pictures/photos. This one is quite large, measuring 15.5" by 19.5". The picture has a tear in the top and some other wear/age signs but for how old it is this is in pretty good condition. The frame looks to have been painted white, I am unsure if that is original to it or not. The frame and glass are most likely original to the picture. The glass is antique and has the "rippling" to it. The frame measures approx 22" by 27", it has some damage on the bottom of the wood.
What would something like this be worth and is it a tintype, if not what is it?
