Accurate Description of Item
One Early 20th Century Charter Oak Cook Stove
Appraiser Remarks
Charter Oak Stove & Furnace Company opened it’s doors in 1848. Charter Oak was born under the name of the Excelsior Manufacturing Company of St. Louis, Missouri. The parent company produced heating sources and munitions (especially during the Civil War), right up until 1949.
Stoves like this one tend to postdate 1900 and were made into the 1920's when the Art Deco style took over and stoves were made closer to the boxy shaped examples we know today.
Values for these cook stoves depend a great deal on their condition, as they are very expensive to restore properly. Stoves with broken or missing firebrick and rusted out sections are hard to sell for much over $250.00, original stoves in good condition can sell for over $1500.00, but often sell at auction for about $500.00.
