Accurate Description of Item
One 20th Century French Provincial Style Chair
Appraiser Remarks
This chair is in the French Provincial style, which was a simplifcation of the Louis XV style. The Louis XV style abhorred straight lines. In typical Louis XV furniture everything is curved, the style is sometimes referred to as the Rococo Style, derived from two French words meaning rock and shell. The rock and shell were the two popular motifs for decoration of this period. The style has been revived numerous times since its first inception, the last during the 1990's as "French Country". Chairs like yours tend to be the variety before World War Two (1939), values tend to be rather modest for them currently.
Estimated Value
