Antique European 800 Silver Sugar? Bowl

Category
Silver and Silver Overlay
Condition
Good
Description

This is an antique sugar bowl, but could also be used for nuts, jams or sauce.

Marked 800, likely of European origin.

I suspect German (German Jugendstil), Italian or Austrian-Hungarian, 1880-1930.

Has basketweave-style/mesh middle band, smooth interior and two ornate handles.

Without a lid, not sure if was produced with lid or without.

Great condition, smooth, has patina.

There is also a maker mark before the 800, looks like R0, but really hard to read.

65 gr of weight, 3'' tall,  bowl is 3.6'' in diameter, leg is 2'' in diameter.

If the maker is Italian, could be one of this two in RO: https://www.silvercollection.it/SILVERSMITHSRO.html

Antique 1897 T. G. McCarthy Presidential Portraits

Category
Paintings
Condition
Good
Description

I've recently acquired this pair of presidential portraits signed by T. G. McCarthy 1897. One features Abraham Lincoln, the other, George Washington. They're beautifully rendered.

I received them from a man who lived in Colorado for many years, who received them from his mother who bought them at a yard sale in Colorado Springs around the 1970s.

From what I've been able to research about T. G. McCarthy, he was quite an influential man in the development of Pueblo Colorado. He owned a paint, glass and wallpaper store, painted signs for businesses, opened a mortuary, was the mayor of Pueblo, then sheriff, among many other things. Born in 1856 and died 1940.

They're fairly large, maybe about 18x24 if not a bit larger. In ok shape, the guy I got them from was a history teacher and kept them in the classroom and kids will be kids. They need cleaned and maybe some repairs.
